This painting is called "Down by the cliffs". After painting a series of landscapes and cityscapes I wanted to do a seascape and went to the beach in Dieppe. People come here to relax and sunbathe. A few come here to remind the sacrifice of their grandfathers in an almost forgotten war. It's hard to imagine what happened here during the Second World War. A massive Allied assault on the German occupier failed dramatically. More than a 1000 troops who raided the beach died here, most of them Canadians. May they rest in peace.
